Treasure Hunt! McAgates & Petrified Wood. April 11th, 2026

Petrified Wood & Agate Collecting Adventure

We will be visiting several sites for beautiful agates and petrified wood. 

Difficulty Level:

• On a scale of 1 to 3 this is a 1. A great trip for the whole family.

Event Details:

• Date: Saturday, April 11th.
• Location: South of I-70, Utah (multiple sites)
• Cost: FREE!
• Capacity: Limited to about 50 people
• Age Restriction: Good for the whole family ages 3 to 103. 
• Specific details will be emailed out the Monday prior

Vehicle Requirements:

• Car with good tires required. 
• High clearance vehicle necessary.
  

What's Included:

• Take home everything you find. BLM limits apply! 
  

What to Bring:

• Rock hammer and chisel
• Bucket or two for specimens
• Material to wrap specimens in (toilet paper, foil, paper towels, small containers)
• Shovel (optional but recommended)
• Hand lens (essential for micro minerals)
• Food and water for the day
• Appropriate hiking gear and sturdy boots

Trip Focus & Difficulty:

• Collecting Style: Everything possible from garden-type digging in the dumps to heavy hammer & chisel from solid rock
• Physical Demand: Walking and hiking. 
• Digging: Hard digging not necessary, but be prepared for physical activity

• This area is famous for petrified wood, agate, dino bone, and more.
