Join us for an incredible FREE collecting trip to one of Utah's most beloved mineral locations! This is a special opportunity to explore multiple historic mines in the Gold Hill area, focusing on unusual and rare micro minerals.
Event Details:
- Date: Saturday, September 20, 2025
- Location: Gold Hill, Utah (multiple mine sites)
- Cost: FREE!
- Capacity: Limited to about 50 people
- Age Restriction: Strongly recommended ages 12+
- Specific details will be emailed out the Monday prior
Vehicle Requirements:
- Car with good tires required. You'll have to "buddy" up with someone with a truck
- High clearance vehicle necessary
- 4WD recommended for best access
What's Included:
- Access to multiple historic mining areas
- Expert guidance from someone with 35+ years experience at this location
- Mineral identification assistance
- Take home everything you find
What to Bring:
- Rock hammer and chisel
- Bucket or two for specimens
- Material to wrap specimens in (toilet paper, foil, paper towels, small containers)
- Shovel (optional but recommended)
- Hand lens (essential for micro minerals)
- Food and water for the day
- Appropriate hiking gear and sturdy boots
Trip Focus & Difficulty:
- Collecting Style: Everything possible from garden-type digging in the dumps to heavy hammer & chisel from solid rock
- Physical Demand: Strenuous hiking required
- Digging: Hard digging not necessary, but be prepared for physical activity
- Skill Level: Mineral identification background helpful, or come ready to ask lots of questions!

This area is renowned for unusual and rare micro minerals. There are loads of beautiful specimens just waiting to be discovered among the hundreds of old mining areas to be explore. Perfect for serious collectors interested in micro minerals and rare finds + some just beautiful rocks.
